What is pdfFiller?

pdfFiller is a PDF editor, online document library, and document management suite all in one. The main gimmick is the PDF filling feature, which takes advantage of PDF’s interactive form fields. Users can bulk extract data from these forms into Excel spreadsheets, or fill pDFs from Excel spreadsheets.

Document management features include sending and receiving documents via email, fax, and SMS (!). For example, a searchable legal document library allows you to grab some common tax forms, such as W-9. They can be instantly added to your dashboard, edited in pdfFiller, and sent out.

PDF is a compelling document format which is universally supported across platforms, combining text, images, and even code into rich documents. However, a rarely used option in PDF documents is the creation of form fields that recipients can fill out. pdfFiller takes it to the next level, allowing users to create, upload, edit, and share these PDFs. The most revolutionary feature is the ability to connect PDFs to billing systems and use them for invoicing. Here is my review of pdfFiller that reveals whether it’s all work or just a filler.

document management

Despite its power and versatility, PDF isn’t the default document format for many people. pdfFiller aims to change that by first offering a PDF editor. People can then upload files to the editor in the following formats: PDF, DOC, DOCX, RTF, PPT, JPEG, PNG, and TXT. But first, this pdfFiller review will take an in-depth look at pdfFiller’s features.

How to use pdfFiller?

The pdfFiller dashboard works a lot like an email inbox. There’s a sidebar on the left with icons like the dashboard and the trash can. Clicking any of these icons opens the right panel with additional information and features. Clicking on any document opens the PDF online editor portion of pdfFiller. You can draw on the document in the PDF editor, enter text, add form fields, replace text, and more. The editor is a little fiddly, but there is an undo option. Click inside the editor workspace, press Esc to cancel text entry, and then try scrolling with your keyboard.

Use the mouse wheel, arrows, and PgUp or PgDn keys to move the workspace view; use the button in the upper right corner of the magnifying glass to zoom out. When you are satisfied with the document, click “Finish”. This will take you to the dashboard, which provides a handy overview of all documents and options.

Without logging in through pdfFiller, you will not be able to download documents or manage them. However, you can test almost all editing options for free.

Supports document faxing

When it comes to sending and receiving paper documents, nothing is more convenient than faxing. However, faxing is done over phone lines, so a phone number is required. pdfFiller allows you to search for area codes (US only) and retrieve phone numbers to fax your PDF files.

Fax service costs $19.99 per month unless cancelled.

Turn documents into invoices

The collection feature means you can receive payments from customers by filling out forms in your PDF. The examples given are patient intake forms and event registration forms. It takes three business days to remit the money. I’m not sure what pdfFiller’s cut of this transaction is. PDF forms can also be sold through pdfFiller. According to pdfFiller’s introduction to the feature, your PDF invoices will be converted to web pages for free. You set up the payment method, and only Stripe is currently supported. You get paid every time someone downloads your PDF form. The animation in the introduction shows your PDF being found through Google search and being clicked by visitors. This means you have to market your PDF.

Access to API for automation

The pdfFiller API also allows automated access to its server backend. Hover over “My Account” on your dashboard and click “My API”. Click “Transparent Pricing” and get up gracefully from your chair. Access costs $500 per month for the Gold plan and $1,000 per month for the Platinum plan. The Gold plan is limited to 500 requests per month: the Platinum plan is limited to 1,000 requests per month. Very generous indeed.

pdfFiller Cost

Now, if you want to know how much money you’ll have to pay for this tool, keep reading our review. Thus, pdfFiller pricing is done in three tiers:

  • Basic, billed $96 a year
  • Plus, billed $144 a year
  • Premium, billed $180 a year

pdfFiller Basic
Basic is designed for a single user. It provides basic PDF editor functionality and adds the ability to fax finished PDFs. Text in the document can be erased, highlighted, annotated, and rewritten. Customer support is available, but responds within 24 hours rather than immediately. Faxing costs $19.99 per month for this plan.

pdfFiller Plus
Plus is available for up to 3 users. The feature list expands with reusable templates and basic fillable fields. Users can add pages, merge or rearrange pages. Users can convert PDF documents to editable Word documents. Customer support responds within 30 minutes. Faxing costs $14.99 per month for this plan.

pdfFiller Premium
Premium is available for up to 5 users. Documents can be sent for signature via SignNow, with a 30-day free trial. This plan includes a 1-year subscription to the USLegal Forms Library, where you can get legal forms such as NDAs. If you need sophisticated e-signature options, this plan is for you. You can also collect and export data. Faxing costs $9.99 per month for this plan.

Is there a free version of pdfFiller?

Yes! Visit pdfFiller.com, scroll down, and click “Select from Device” or drag and drop your document into the area. You’ll be taken to the editor section of the site without having to sign up or provide payment information. However, you will need to provide an email address before you can access the dashboard to modify the document or view options. Once you’re ready to sign up for a 30-day trial, you’ll be asked to prepay. Sign in with your Facebook, Apple, or Google account; alternatively, create one using your email address.

Conclusions

pdfFiller is an extremely feature-rich PDF editor with a ton of features. Not all of the features are for everyone, but luckily, pdfFiller offers three subscription tiers that tailor the features to suit different users’ needs.

The Basic plan is best for individual users. It offers standard PDF editing and annotation features, cloud storage for PDF files, and within-a-day customer support for $20 per month, or $8 per month with a yearly commitment. The Plus plan adds the ability to create reusable templates; merge, rearrange, or add pages; add basic fillable fields, and within-a-hour support for $30 per month, or $12 per month with a yearly commitment. The Premium plan includes all of the features of the Basic and Plus plans, and adds an e-signature workflow, access to a library of U.S. legal forms and other features for businesses, and live chat support. There’s a 30-day free trial, which is plenty of time to figure out which plan is right for you.
